August, 2013

August 31, 2013: It is the final day of August. It is very difficult to believe that 2013 is only four months away from being over. It seems as if 2013 just started. The months go by so fast it is unreal. The time really seems to fly when you are as busy as we have been here at On Guard Security, Inc. This has been the busiest and most hectic year at On Guard Security, Inc. since it began. We have grown in nearly every possible way that you could think of to measure growth. All the private security guards that work at On Guard Security have become more experienced in security procedures and techniques, more knowledgeable about security-related issues, and more effective on a greater variety of security posts. Private security guards that have worked for us over the last eight months have worked many different security details that each required its own unique security plan and procedures. For instance, two different security guard details in a retail environment will often be very similar. me The equipment used by security guards on both of the two details would probably be very similar, if not exactly the same. The forms used by the security guards on each of the two posts would probably be very similar, too. The need for security personnel, the security procedures, and the security guard's rate of pay would probably be very similar in both of the retail locations. A security guard operation for executive protection or a detail to protect against workplace violence is very much different from a retail security guard detail. You could not send a private security guard that was trained mostly in loss-prevention and spent most of his career working retail security into a security guard team that is protecting against the threat of workplace violence without quite a bit of extra training. The two situations are completely different and require different types of security personnel, or if you are lucky, you might end up the security officers that have experience in most, if not all, of the most common type of security concerns that we encounter. Our security officers are experienced in a wide variety of security situations from executive protection to watching materials overnight at a construction site.
It is a very hot, summer day in Nashville today! I love the summer, but I do not like days like these. To make matters worse, I am working an unarmed security guard post that requires frequent and long foot patrols outside. What a day! At least it is a pretty safe and quiet neighborhood so I feel like I will be quite alright without body armor on today!

A man in Texas was allegedly impersonating a private security guard early Sunday morning. Police arrived at the bar because of a large fight that broke out in the bar. Police officers noticed a man that was wearing a black polo shirt with the word "SECURITY" on the back. The man also wore a duty belt with a flashlight. The fake security guard also had two sets of handcuffs. The board that oversees the private security guard industry in Texas says that impersonating a security guard is a Class A Misdemeanor. It is a beautiful late August afternoon here in Nashville. The whole day has been pretty nice as far as the weather is concerned. I just finished doing a little fishing on J. Percy Priest Lake with N. Gryder and Officer Wilson. Unfortunately, the fishing was not very good at all. It wasn't good for the three of us, anyway. As far as I could tell no one else that was in the same general area as us were catching fish. It was still a very pleasant afternoon to be on the lake. Hopefully, the next time we go fishing we will have a little more luck.

They also believe that the private security guards may have called the photographer in advance to make arrangements for the secret pictures to be taken. Rest in peace to Security Officer Ralph Byrd. Ralph Byrd was pronounced dead today in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was 52-years-old. The cause of Ralph's death is uncertain, but experts believe that he died of a heart attack. Ralph worked with On Guard Security for several years. August 10, 2013: Earlier this week in Minnesota a private security guard was found unresponsive by emergency personnel. It's a warm, overcast morning here in Nashville. Rain is likely throughout the day. All private security guards working outside details (or any other person that works outside) should be prepared to deal with inclement weather today. Having the proper clothing and gear on duty can make a huge difference in a security guard's effectiveness. A security guard that brings rain gear is much more likely to do all the patrols that are required on a rainy day if some of the patrols require going outside. If an unprepared private security guard does do the outside patrol he will likely be wet and uncomfortable. A guard that is not comfortable is a guard that will not be able to give 100% to his job. Therefore, it is very important that our private security guards remember to bring their rain gear to work on days such as this one.

Thanks to all the private security guards that work with On Guard Security, Inc. Thanks to all the support staff that works for On Guard Security, too. Without the support personnel the security guard operations could not happen. Thanks to all the people that work with On Guard Security. Special thanks to Officer Traister, Officer Benson, Captain Teal, Lt. White, Britt, Officer Roberts, Officer Chapman, Officer Nicholson, Peggy, Kyle, Officer Wilson, Officer Altobell, and Officer Ward for all the extra help that they have given.
A manhunt in south Nashville earlier this week led to the arrest of three men that are suspected for multiple robberies and carjackings as well as a variety of other offenses. Police began the manhunt looking for two suspects in a carjacking/robbery. The two suspects allegedly robbed a 16-year-old of his vehicle and other belongings. One of the suspects also kicked the 16-year-old victim in the head during the robbery. Police officers waited at an area where many stolen cars have been showing up lately to see if the suspects would arrive. When one of the suspects saw a police officer in the area that they were waiting for the robbers a chase began. During the pursuit of the first two suspects a police officer saw a Chrysler 200 that looked like one that was recently reported stolen in the area. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, a chase began. Both of the suspects in the Chrysler 200 were apprehended eventually. Only one suspect out of the two were caught in the first robbery. After questioning the suspects investigators do not believe that the first two suspects had any connection to the other suspects. Investigators believe that all four suspects will probably be tied to other similar crimes in the south Nashville area.

August 9, 2013: Authorities in Nashville had a busy day yesterday. Hundreds of calls were received yesterday regarding the flooding in Nashville. Most of the flooding was in the Northern parts of Davidson County such as Madison. We actually had two security guards get stranded by a flooded creek on a security post in Madison. Luckily, the water level went down fairly quickly, and the security guards were able to go on about their security guard operations as usual. The private security guards that worked this particular security detail in Madison have reported to me that all of the orange safety cones that we use to help direct incoming vehicles to the guard that is on duty have disappeared due to the rising water in the creek. Many of signs that we utilize to instruct incoming traffic to sign in with the security guard on post have also been swept away by the creek. Over 300 people were displaced by yesterday's flooding, and over 100 houses or businesses were damaged in the weather yesterday according to the mayor's office. It is reported that some places in north Davidson County received over seven inches of rain. Despite the widespread damage done by yesterday's weather, only one flood-related injury has been reported.

In the parking lot the woman was approached by the three security guards and asked to come back inside. The woman sprayed pepper spray into the air and fled. The woman was able to escape the security guards. Police arrested the woman later on another warrant. The suspect is being charged with robbery for the incident with the Walmart security guards. The woman claims that she only fled from the security guards and sprayed pepper spray because she didn't know who they were when they started grabbing her. Surveillance video shows that the guards clearly identified themselves. The surveillance video shows that the suspect sprayed the private security guards with pepper spray before any of the security guards grabbed her.
Four people in New Jersey have been arrested for a robbery in which a private security guard was bitten and scratched. The four suspects allegedly went into a liquor store and began putting bottles (four bottles of champagne) in purses or other places to conceal them. The private security guard working at the liquor store saw one of the suspects put a bottle in her purse. When the security guard asked to check the suspect's purse, the suspect ran down an aisle. August 8, 2013: Wet weather has returned to Nashville. Actually is seems to have never left. Flooding is being reported all over Nashville, especially areas north of Nashville. Many of our private security guards have reported flooding on there security detail today. In fact, two of our uniformed security guards were stranded today for nearly two hours at there post in Madison. Flooding and other natural disasters can cause serious problems with security. In the past we have seen major increase in the need for private security following flooding. Many times surveillance systems can malfunction and physical security measures like fences can go down or are no longer effective, in many cases these problems can be relieved with a quality security guard service.

The victim was cut off by another vehicle as he was attempting to pull into the Mapco. The victim began yelling at the car that cut him off, and then went into the convenience store. A woman that was in the vehicle that the victim was yelling at went inside the Mapco, too. The woman demanded that the victim apologize for what he had yelled at the car that she was riding in. Eventually, the woman pulled out a knife and said that she was going to kill the victim if he didn't apologize. The victim was able to get a hold on the knife, but that is also when the suspect stabbed him in the arm. August 5, 2013: It's a beautiful morning here in Nashville. Once again, I am just getting off work. It was another uneventful third shift security guard detail. That is just the way that I like my security guard posts. An uneventful shift means a safe and secure shift with no drama.

August 3, 2013: It is an incredibly busy weekend at On Guard Security. In fact, this whole year has been busy so far. July of 2013 was a record-breaking month for On Guard Security. July was our best month by multiple different measures. Besides the sales of our contract security guard services and other financial measures, we grew in more ways than I could possibly mention here. Our experience and knowledge of security grew in July. Two specific security guard services that we provided to two new clients last month come to mind where On Guard Security and our private security guards developed security procedures and provided security personnel for situations that we had not previously encountered. Both of those security guard operations went very well for everyone involved and each of the security guards that worked either one of these accounts has gained new experience in the security guard industry that many of our future clients will benefit from. On Guard Security hired new quality private security guards that have unique skills and experiences. We also provided security guard services to many new clients while still providing a quality security service to our existing clients. Our growth will continue in nearly every way this month and for many months to come.

It is rainy today in Nashville and many areas in middle Tennessee. Hope all the private security guards that work with On Guard Security on an outside detail remember to bring their rain gear.
Rest in peace, Elizabeth. Our prayers are with you and your family, especially Officer Clark.

August 2, 2013: It is a very nice day here in Nashville. The temperature is a little higher than I like, but it is still a really beautiful day. Any private security guard that has the good fortune to be assigned to an outside detail today is fortunate. I can imagine that it might be hot for a security guard that wears body armor while on duty, though.
A Jet's Pizza shop was robbed in Clarksville late Wednesday evening. The robbery occurred at around 11 p.m. at the Jet's Pizza on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Clarksville. According to police, three men that were dressed in black and wearing ski masks over their faces entered the back door of the restaurant showing weapons while six restaurant employees were cleaning up. The robbers took the money from the cash register after one of the robbers pistol whipped the man that was counting the register. The robbers then made all the employees go to the back of thee restaurant and empty their pockets. The robbers then fled the pizza shop. Police in Clarksville arrested three suspects shortly after the armed robbery occurred. Police in Clarksville believe that the robbery is somehow connected to gang activity that has been happening in that area. Police also recovered items that came from another armed robbery in the residence of one of the suspects. The items help link the Jet's Pizza robbery to an armed robbery that occurred about a week ago in Clarksville.

On Guard Security welcomes two new private security guards to our security force. Officer Benson and Officer Walton are both very professional, reliable, and well-trained security officers. We are confident that both officers will be an asset to On Guard and to our clients.

August 1, 2013: On Guard Security, Inc. would like to thank all the private security guards that work with us. It is a pleasure to work with professional security guards that take pride in their work and strive to provide the best security guard service that is possible each and every time that they work a security guard detail. I would also like to thank all the non-security personnel that work with On Guard Security. Many times at private protective services companies the support staff is overlooked. A quality security guard service can not be provided with out quality office workers, management, and other employees that take care of the billing, paperwork, equipment, logistics, and many other issues that have to be dealt with on each security detail. Also, special thanks to Lt. White, Captain Teal, Officer Roberts, Officer Wilson, Britt, Officer Mitchell, Peggy, Officer Ward, Officer Clark, Officer Cotham, Officer Nicholson, Officer Traister, and Officer K. Byrd for all the extra help!!!
It is a foggy morning in some parts of Nashville. I am finishing up working a third shift unarmed security guard post in Madison, Tennessee. All seems to be well here at this particular post. I am quite ready for this shift to go ahead and end, though.
I can't believe that it is already August of 2013!!! Where does the time go?!? It seems as though we just started this year, and now it is more than half way gone!! Time moves by so quickly. July probably seemed to go by so quickly because of how busy everyone was at On Guard Security last month. We had several new clients in addition to the existing clients. Some of the security guard services that the clients needed last month were very large operations that required several private security guards at a time. These new security guard operations were taking place at the same time that our continual security guard services were operating, too. Scheduling problems like these in addition to an overall increase in demand for our contract security guard services created a fast pace work environment that most security guard companies could not keep up with.

Earlier this week in Indiana security guards at a campground had to deal with an armed man. The campers that were camping at the campground notified a campground security guard about a man that was in the campgrounds with a firearm and acting very strange. They reported to security that the man had fired multiple rounds. No other campers reported any property damage or that anyone was injured. Police officers arrived and arrested the man with the gun. The suspect was charged with criminal recklessness with a firearm and possession of a firearm without a permit. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Last night in Murfreesboro a man was taken to a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. The shooting occurred last night at around 9:15 p.m. on East Main Street. The victim was rushed to the hospital to be treated. The victim is expected to be alright.
